this is a photo of a Sioux woman and her child. The bond that Native American women shared with their children was incredibly strong. While the men would hunt or meet together, they would stay at home. Children relied on their mothers for everything from learning to cook, language and how to make clothing.

This is a woman in the midwest beside her sod house. Her and her family came out west because of the Homestead Act. Many Americans took advantage of this and became farmers on the plains. They were no trees on the plains so they had to make houses out of grass.
