Between 1880 and 1910 the number of employed women went from 2.6 million to 7.8 million. Women became a major force in factories. They often worked to help their families along with their husbands job. They worked in clothing factories, glass making shops, mills, etc.
This image shows the marches and pickets that were held in cities to promote women's suffrage. Women would march around and hold banners and wave flags to share their message. This played a major part in eventually passing the 19th Amendment because it spread through the country and pickets increased in popularity.
This is a photo from 1918 of a woman in the Salvation Army. Thousands of women volunteered to help out in the war effort. They were able to give support to the troops by serving and preparing things at home. This was the first time that women were heavily involved in the war effort.
Parties like this one shown in the photo were formed during this time. Political groups formed by women were supposed to spread awareness of the inequality in our nation and allow everyone to hear the reasons why women deserve better.
This is the front page of the 19th Amendment. This is known as one of the top ten Documents in American History. This gave the women the right to vote in all major elections. This greatly influenced the way our country is today.
